Cottage

Description

Sitting on the northwest fringe of the town, one of the main routes into Masham, the houses line one side of The Avenue overlooking the River Ure near Burn Bridge. Here you will find River Cottage, a stone built end terraced cottage with walks from the doorstep. The Avenue is tree-lined with mature limes that were planted in 1875 to mark the opening of the railway, which later closed in 1963. Separating The Avenue from the river is open parkland known locally as The Shooting Holme which has adjacent playing fields and tennis courts. With the market place only a few minutes walk away it is very convenient for all the town has to offer.

The cottage has a low walled garden to the front which links to the secure rear patio area and garden with secure bicycle store and gate to the drive. Access to the cottage is either from the front or the rear but for parking convenience it is better to use the rear entrance which is reached via Avenue Bank, a residential cul-de-sac running parallel to The Avenue.

Entry from the patio is to an open plan living space with stylish, well-equipped kitchen; dining area with over-head lighting and comfortable lounge area which views across the Holme to the river. There is a front entrance porch off the lounge area which leads to the front garden and The Avenue and to the side of the lounge is a small hallway which leads to a cloakroom with toilet and hand basin.

A stairway rises from the lounge to a landing which gives way to four bedrooms and a bathroom with bath, washbasin and toilet. The main bedroom has king-size bed and en-suite shower room, two bedrooms have double beds and the fourth bedroom has a single bed.

The cottage has been stylishly designed and is perfect for families or friends to getaway and enjoy The Dales together.

We had a lovely stay at River Cottage. The welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated after a long drive from London. Very comfortable, well equipped accommodation. All appliances easy to use. Convenient location for exploring rural North Yorkshire. Masham itself is a friendly and welcoming community - we were impressed by the sheep show weekend and the market! The brewery on the hill offers a great place to eat whether sampling local beers (or not!). Everyone agreed at the end of our stay that we would love to come back.

We have been coming to stay in Masham each year, usually on Spring or early Autumn, for around 20 years now. This is the 5th cottage we have stayed in, and I think it is probably the best one overall.

Nice house in a nice village/town. Well placed to explore the Dales and Moors. It has some decent pubs and very good ice cream shop. Chip shop is supposed to be good, but we didn’t use it. They use peanut oil to cook the chips etc, so for those with a nut allergy.

Our 2 families (6 in total) including children aged 3 and 7 have just stayed for our second, very enjoyable visit here. The house is very spacious with the 4 bedrooms and has a lovely bright open layout downstairs suited to bigger families. Well equipped throughout. There is a small enclosed back garden but that was not a problem as the park with a playground was literally just over the road. However it is a very busy road. Position of property is excellent and is just a short walk to all the local amenities in Masham, you can literally see the black sheep brewery from the house! We would happily return again
