Cottage

Description

Sitting near the sleepy end of the unspoilt village of Newbiggin in Bishopdale, The Stable has been recently converted from a traditional dales stable into a very special two bedroomed property. The cottage sits back from the road where there is a small lawn and a gravelled area with ample parking space for three cars.

Entry at the front is to a large, well-equipped kitchen with tiled floor and a wide solid beech peninsula unit which is ideal for breakfasting. Off the kitchen is a spacious lounge/dining room with limestone fireplace and coal effect electric fire. Both the lounge and kitchen have doors leading out to the patio and large terraced garden with lush borders and lawns and a bubbling stream with a waterfall which provides a natural water feature. The elevated position of the upper terrace affords beautiful views to the surrounding fields and fells.

A stairway leads from the lounge to two double bedrooms. The larger room has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet and the smaller has a double bed with en-suite washbasin and toilet. There are external stone steps to the larger bedroom which are a remnant of the days when hay was carried to the loft for storage but still accessible today.

This is a particularly lovely cottage with high quality furnishing including some antiques, all the modern comforts of home and comfortable under-floor heating. The Stable is the home of the property owners for the spring and summer months and consequently some cupboards are private, though, of course there is plenty of storage space for holidaymakers needs. Please note that the bath/shower is en-suite to the bigger bedroom making the cottage better suited to two couples who are prepared to share this arrangement.

About The Area

Newbiggin

In lower Bishopdale where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Newbiggin is a peaceful base to relax and explore both Wharfedale and Wensleydale.

Tucked away off the main road in the village of Newbiggin, the house is a converted agricultural building. It's the home of the owners for part of the year and so everything is of fine quality. It has a beautiful, well appointed kitchen and a separate dining area, leading on to a cosy sitting room. Upstairs are two comfortable double bedrooms with en suite facilities. The only thing that I found a bit difficult is the unpredictable temperature of the water. The shower was too hot and on turning it down it went straight to cold. The bathroom wash hand basin needs to have the warm water running for several minutes to produce a steady flow of warm water. It's a similar situation in the kitchen sink. That said, we loved the house and it's location in the middle of excellent walking country and hope to come again next year.

The Stable, being the owners’ home, is furnished and maintained to a higher degree than a typical holiday let. Of course that puts the onus on us to take extra care, but the stay at this lovely location more than compensates. We had reason to make contact with the owners, who were extremely helpful and kind. Ditto the managing agents.

Jo and Nadine at Country Hideaways were very helpful and flexible in sorting out a week in this delightful cottage. Not our first visit to the Dales or this cottage, just love the area and the comfortable cottage. It certainly won’t be our last visit either!

We enjoyed a comfortable few days away in a good location - the enclosed garden was ideal for the dog

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Stable at Newbiggin. The accomodation was very comfortable and very well equipped and clean. The Stable is in a lovely quiet location, up a dead end road, with no passing traffic, great to get away from it all and relax. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the bench at the top of the garden, just listening to the birds and enjoying the view. There is a lovely pub in the village, which is about a mile to walk from the property, which does good food.

The cottage was warm and comfortable, with everything we needed. We loved the garden, especially as it was full of birds. Newbiggin gave easy access to Bishopdale, Wensleydale and Upper Wharfedale so there was plenty of good walking and fine views. Our stay was a good rest and a great tonic!

What a find - the cottage was so comfortable, tucked away at the end of Newbiggin. The terraced gardens were lovely and a great variety of birds came to feed - even a pheasant turned up at the same time every morning - I named him Clive!! There is a deck at the top of the garden and we took advantage of it to partake of a cheeky wine and enjoy the fabulous views of an evening, we were so lucky as the weather was perfect for our walking break in the Dales. We were able to do walks directly from the cottage too, as well as driving to Muker, Aysgarth and Reeth for walks. West Burton is only a couple of miles to walk where there is a gorgeous village green and a waterfall, worth a visit. The location of The Stable couldn’t be better. There is a pub - The Street Head Inn, probably a 10 minute walk away although we didn’t visit so couldn’t comment on what it is like. Thank you for the lovely bottle of wine on arrival, also plenty of tea bags, milk and biscuits. We would definitely like to return in the future. Thank you xx

It is an ideal base for walking. The car has not been moved since arriving. Very generous with tea, coffee, wine n biscuits. Bed was very comfortable. Place was very warm. Country Hideaways were very quick to sort problems out. On the negative side there should be an electric kettle and free standing microwave. And tea bags should be in a container.

The sixth visit we have made to this lovely cottage and hope we will be back again. It is always warm and welcoming with lovely comfortable sofas in the relaxing lounge. Once we had understood the instructions for the TV and Freesat box the TV became easy to use however the signal disappeared on a few occasions so we were unable to watch a chosen programme. The kitchen has always been well equipped but a few more mugs would be useful. A good location for a walking holiday with many local footpaths and less than a mile to the local Street Head Inn where you can find a good meal.
