The day was quite grey and a little drizzly when Joanne and I set off on the Ancient Trees Walk at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon but in no way did it spoil our enjoyment of this lovely walk. Pateley Bridge is a small market town perched on a steep sided valley in the wonderful Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty. There has been a settlement on this site since the 12th century and very picturesquely straddles the River Nidd.
