It’s been a few years now since I heard about the Ripon Sanctuary Walk and felt it would be a lovely walk to try. And so the day came, our friends live in Ripon and have completed the walk many times so no need to plan the route but I would advise you to do so.
Please follow the link for the Ripon Sanctuary Walk leaflet giving the route, (http://www.ripon-internet.com › rotary-walk-leaflet) it is a little vague and you will still need to get the map out! There are one or two stone pillars to indicate you are on the route and interpretation boards as you arrive at strategic points, sadly these were missing last week only the empty stand left. We felt they must be away for refurbishing and will no doubt appear again.
On a beautiful sunny day we met together to do the ten mile route. The way took us from the cathedral through the town, by the canal, a little of the racecourse, along the River Ure, over little bridges, a glimpse of the golf course. A true snapshot of Ripon and its environs. There are shorter routes which you may want to explore and these are indicated on the Ripon Sanctuary Walk leaflet.
We have cottages nearby, The Hay Loft, to sleep two plus one small dog, is in Bishopton actually on the route!
