Staying indoors and still having fun!
We’re into our third week now of lockdown, we're all in this together and thinking of things to pass the time fruitfully can be a bit challenging some days. Are we all getting a little bored with the usual puzzles?
Sunday 29th March 2020 in the Yorkshire Dales
I know you’ve probably heard it said before but, yes, what strange times we’re living in although looking from the house on Lower Back Nook in West Burton you would really not think anything different was going on in the world.
My back has gone into spasm so no walking!
Just over a month ago a very silly thing happened, I was bending down to pick up the vacuum cleaner and ping my back goes into spasm, didn’t even reach the thing in question! Anyone who has experienced this, and I think I’m one of many, will understand the excruciating pain and total immobility, for a while at least!
March in the glorious Yorkshire Dales
There's always lots going on around the dales and this March there is plenty to see and do, just a few ideas below.
The Fabulous annual Swaledale Festival! 23 May until 6 June 2020
The fabulous Swaledale Festival will be held this year from 23 May until 6 June. A truly fantastic and varied programme of music, arts and walking all held in a variety of places and venues in Swaledale and Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.
Circular Walk of over ten miles from Cover Bridge in Wensleydale
I think it’s becoming quite a regular walk from Cover Bridge for me, twice in two weeks! But this time I was leading and so thought it would make a change to go in a clockwise direction rather than the usual anticlockwise direction. It always puts a different perspective to go the ‘other way round’, you could even say it was a different walk.
Lovely walk from Fairhurst’s at Berry’s in Swinithwaite in a circular manner
Our walking group decided to walk from Fairhurst’s at Berry’s in Swinithwaite. The walk was about four miles in total and easy going but the weather was not good, not good at all when we were getting ready. I really didn’t want to set off but was persuaded, as I would be, and so pleased I was as the afternoon cleared out and we had a stunning walk
A walk from West Burton of bridges, valleys, a couple of villages and stunning views
On a very windy January morning I set off from home in West Burton, didn’t really know where I felt like walking but in the end had a walk with stunning views, easy valleys, a couple of villages and survived the wind! About five miles depending on detours.
When is a hamlet a village and the other way round?
I thought I might mention some of the tiny settlements in the dale and felt I had a good idea as to the difference between a hamlet and a village, i.e. the number of inhabitants or houses there but interestingly there is more to it.
From the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes in a circular manner
It’s coming up to Christmas and our ladies walking group thought it would be a nice idea to gather together for the last walk of the year and to finish with lunch afterwards.
