The Ancient Trees Walk at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon

The day was quite grey and a little drizzly when Joanne and I set off on the Ancient Trees Walk at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon but in no way did it spoil our enjoyment of this lovely walk. About three and half miles, including to and from the car park to St. Mary’s church, easy going and so interesting.

Over thirty years ago would be the is first time I visited the Arboretum at Thorpe Perrow, in my ignorance I didn’t even know what an arboretum was! It was a WI trip, an evening event, a summer evening I suppose, but remember it was cold and not at all sunny but was still very impressed with what I saw even then.

When all this is over!

Joanne and I were talking the other day of the things we were missing doing whilst we’re in lockdown and everything closed but also of things that we hadn’t done for a while here in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.

Bolton Castle in Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales

When I was little, many years ago, we often used to visit Bolton Castle. For me it was a magical place, the stuff of stories, exciting, fearful, daring and I also think that is where I started with vertigo! We would scamper up the winding stones steps
