Aysgarth in Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales
A small linear village sitting along side the A684 midway between Hawes and Leyburn. The village may be small but well worth a visit as there are the magnificent Aysgarth Falls to see, a stroll round the majestic church of St Andrews, an Edwardian Rock Garden and various cafes and pubs.
The Georgian Theatre Experience at The Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond
Joanne and I were invited to the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond for a look behind the scenes! Literally! We arrived on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, along with others, and thoroughly enjoyed an interesting and informative hour or so led by our volunteer guide.
Tree planting with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust in Bishopdale
What fun Joanne and I had last Saturday morning in Bishopdale, it was a free event organised by the YDMT and part of this year’s Flowers of the Dales Festival. Essential work in practical conservation and couldn’t be done without all the volunteers who come and spend some time planting native broadleaved trees in our glorious Yorkshire Dales.
Be a Ranger for the Day in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
Calling all children who are eight and over! Did you know you can experience being a ranger in the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park for the day and see for yourselves just what rangers do during their working day. There are various days to choose from and various venues too! Just bring yourselves and your enthusiasm along with snacks, drink and packed lunch and probably your wellies, oh and you need to bring an adult with you also! Don’t forget!
Circular walk into Walden from West Burton in Wensleydale
A lovely walk from the Cauldron Falls in West Burton into Walden and back down via the old/now newly planted plantation. Park your car at the waterfall area or by the village green and please wear suitable clothing and good footwear as the route takes you through pasture and moorland. Always a good idea to plan your route and take the map. The walk is about seven miles, quite easy going but some inclines. Fantastic views all the way. If you’re staying at Hill Top Cottage in Walden please pick the route up at the *.
East Witton to Colsterdale on to Ellingstring and back to East Witton
This walk is curtesy of Diana Jolland who has compiled a little book of ten circular walks in Wensleydale. You can find the book for sale in the Leyburn Arts and Community Centre in The Old School House. A route to walk after a good dry spell or be prepared for a bit of mud and standing water. A walk of magnificent views into Wensleydale, Colsterdale and Nidderdale.
Redmire to Castle Bolton, Dent’s House, Preston under Scar and back
I know I keep on saying this but I am still amazed as to how many footpaths I haven’t walked, it’s really quite mind boggling as to how many miles of paths and tracks there are in the glorious Yorkshire dales and Nidderdale and how they intertwine with one another.
From Hawes into Cotterdale and the Pennine Way, two viaducts and a waterfall!
On what turned out to be the perfect January day we set off from Hawes in a north westerly direction. A beautiful circular walk, just over ten miles with a good climb from Thwaite bridge.
