The Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn, Wensleydale
Our walking group decided we should have an evening meal together near to Christmas, as you do, and chose the Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn. None of us having been there for a while felt it was a good opportunity to try the place again.
Redmire, Preston under Scar, Lord’s Bridge in Wensleydale
No long hills, easy going, wonderful views, about 6 miles in a circular manner, what more could you want with a walk? We parked in Redmire, there is a designated parking area at the top of the green. From here you’ll see a footpath sign pointing in a northerly direction to the left of the parking area.
The Little White Bus in Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales
My friend Wanda and I thought we’d have an adventure and catch the Little White Bus to Askrigg and then on to Hawes. Wanda, from sunny Scarborough, has stayed in our holiday cottages before and felt like a trip up the dale.
The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and Two Glasses of Fizz!
Joanne and I were invited to a really lovely event at the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton in Wensleydale, a thank you lunch. Around sixty people were there who all offer bed and breakfast or let holiday cottages and who, throughout the year, had helped to promote the Wensleydale Heifer each in their own small way.
Circular walk by Addlebrough, taking in Bainbridge and Askrigg and back to Thornton Rust in Wensleydale
Another fantastic walk, about ten miles in all, pretty easy going for most of the way and some fabulous views across to Semer Water and the splendour of Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales. Again, take your map for reference as my directions may be quite sparse but will give you a very good idea of the route we took.
The Yoredale Way, an interesting walking trail in the wondrous Yorkshire Dales
Someone rang the other day to book a holiday, as you lovely people tend to do, in fact it was two Country Hideaways holidays, two consecutive weeks to be precise. The first week was in Lion Cottage in Bainbridge and the second at Holly Tree Cottage in East Witton.
Walking on Wether Fell above Hawes in Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales
The hills above Hawes in upper Wensleydale are places I’ve not really explored in all the time I’ve lived here, can’t really understand why but not for much longer I feel after a wonderful walk around Wether Fell.
Circular Walk from Leyburn, along The Shawl, over Lords Bridge and back to Leyburn in the glorious Yorkshire Dales
Well, I suppose that just about sums it up, the title that is but what a really lovely walk. Start from Leyburn and follow the sign for The Shawl from Commercial Square. Follow the path along the side the children’s playing field, on through the wood, beware of the exposed tree roots, I nearly came a cropper!

The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton, Wensleydale plus Complimentary glass of Fizz!
What a lovely lunch we had at The Wensleydale Heifer the other day. Delicious food, friendly, helpful staff and great surroundings with the bar, the snug, the bistro and, for a more formal meal, the restaurant, with each having their own different atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal.
