‘Tis the season for festivals and agricultural shows in the dales!

It would seem so, 14 July saw the Hawes and District Gala, plus the Party in the Park held at Catterick Racecourse following a very successful first event in 2017, the Leyburn 1940’s weekend 21 and 22 July, Richmond Live 3 and 4 August, GeorgeFest 18 until 27 August

The Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate 10 until 12 July 2018

The Great Yorkshire Show has been held in Harrogate annually since 1838 making this year’s the 160th. No wonder it’s such a popular and long standing event with over 1200 trade stands and 2000 competitions, enough to keep anyone amused for three days or more!

We’re all getting very excited about the next annual event coming up in Leyburn, Wensleydale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales on 21 and 22 July 2018 which is the Leyburn 1940’s Weekend! Held in the market place, Thornborough Hall and throughout the town

Remember to visit Bedale whilst you’re here in the Yorkshire Dales

Bedale a lovely Georgian market town with cobbled setts and interesting architecture. There are independent shops, walks along the river, bowling green, small museum at Bedale Hall, a park, golf course, and St Gregory’s, a very beautiful church.

The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton, Wensleydale plus Complimentary glass of Fizz!

What a lovely lunch we had at The Wensleydale Heifer the other day. Delicious food, friendly, helpful staff and great surroundings with the bar, the snug, the bistro and, for a more formal meal, the restaurant, with each having their own different atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal.

Dales Festival of Food & Drink 2018 Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June!

Did you know that since 2002 the Dales Festival of Food and Drink held in Leyburn has generated surplus funds of over £154,000 which has been distributed to local community organisations around the dales.

Circular walk from Helwith Bridge and up Pen-y-Ghent in Ribblesdale

Since the weather has changed to being more spring like I’m really getting some walking done, which is great seeing as how our National Three Peaks Challenge seems to be fast approaching! This time it was Pen-y-Ghent.

Circular walk to Buckden Pike in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales

Another great walk, with simply sensational views, and again it’s a walk I’ve never ventured on before, about nine and a half miles the way we went. Please do take your map for reference, OL30, and remember that even if it’s lovely and warm in the valley bottom it may be freezing cold when you reach the top.

Walk from Ribblehead Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales, venturing up Whernside and back

Walking up Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales was definitely a first for me. A small group of us set off to scale the heights in early spring on quite a windy day with occasional low cloud covering the tops which just as soon appeared disappeared again.
