Have you ever visited Masham? Situated just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it’s a visit not to be put off any longer!

If you’ve been you’ll know all about the delights to be found here, nearby and otherwise. Artisan shops, pubs, eating houses, a couple of breweries, galleries, two weekly markets and all well within a comfortable five or ten minute walk from one of our cottages. Park in the market square if you’re a little further out and have a stroll or bring your walking boots and set off along the side of the River Ure.

There are wetlands to explore, nearby Hackfall Woods with its myriad of wild flowers, the Himalayan Gardens at The Hutts, Swinton Park for a wander and perhaps a pamper day in their new spa, they also do events, check these out on their website if interested. For the thrill seekers go to Lightwater Theme Park, Kayaking at West Tanfield, Ariel Extreme, Brimham Rocks. There are many footpaths for you to explore, but remember to get the OS map out and plan your route.

There seems to be numerous events going on all year, I suppose the most famous is the Masham Traction Engine Rally, usually held in July and the Sheep Fair at the end of September and large bonfire and firework display on November. Have a look on Visit Masham website for ideas.

Easily accessible from the AI motorway north bound or south bound.

Further afield, there’s Ripon, the smallest city in England with its magnificent cathedral, Harrogate, a spa town, voted the happiest place to live in the UK in 2016. Visit nearby Thirsk, even Darlington if you so wish, come into the dales and experience Middleham, Leyburn. Bedale and Northallerton are all just a few miles drive away.
