JERVAULX ABBEY IN BETWEEN MASHAM AND EAST WITTON IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES

Jervaulx Abbey can easily be found between Masham and Ripon just off the A6108. A truly tranquil yet atmospheric place to find peace and quiet and loved by many. Wander…

Wensley Bridge to Middleham, along The Gallops, down to West Witton, returning by the River Ure

What a fabulous walk my friend Den and I did the other day. Was it all the wildlife we saw? Geese, herons, skylarks, curlews, oystercatchers amongst them. Was it because the sun shone yet we could see others weren’t enjoying the same?

Take some time out to do some cloud gazing! Especially in the Yorkshire Dales

Take some time out to do some cloud gazing! No, really, they are there all time, never far away anyway, and they’re free.

Briar Cottage in Middleham in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales

Briar cottage, dating from the 18th century, has been carefully renovated to reveal some of its original features and is part of a small, interesting, terrace which sits on the fringe of the cobbles looking out towards the torn ramparts of Middleham Castle.

A beautiful walk from West Burton into Bishopdale, not to be missed!

Yes, we are in lockdown but the Yorkshire Dales are still here waiting for you whenever you’re ready and able to return. January 2021 hasn’t been the best of months weather wise, it is winter after all, or has it just seemed so because of the situation we are all in. However on a good, clear, very still day with the ground hard and crunchy under foot I set off in the direction of Bishopdale.

Harmby and Spennithorne, villages near to Leyburn in Wensleydale

Perhaps a little mention about Harmby and Spennithorne in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, I talk about them both together as they are small villages just east of Leyburn about half a mile apart. Some of the walks on my blog take you through the villages but not a mention otherwise.

From Darkness to Light by Leslie Annaliese, a poem for the Winter Solstice

I seem to have posted a few poems this year, perhaps it’s the times we are living in but 2021 will be better! These particular few days in December, the Winter Solstice, are always important to the Bell household as we know we are now on the way back to Spring and longer days.

Circular walk from Wensley, through the park to Preston under Scar, Redmire and back along side the River Ure

On a beautiful autumn afternoon my friend Denny and I set off from Wensley Bridge at Wensley near Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales. The footpaths we were going to follow we’ve walked many times before but never really as the route we had planned.

A poem for our times by Stephanie Fields ‘Let the Field Grow Back’

A friend sent this poem to me and I wondered if you might appreciate. Take the time to stand and stare there's always something to amaze. I'd like to say if only to look at the clouds but no small thing for me as they give so much pleasure!

The Joys of Autumn in the glorious Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale AONB

Every year my husband Geoff and I have a discussion about the leaves on the trees in autumn. He always maintains the leaves will be all be on the ground leaving the trees bare by Bonfire Night (sorry to remind you I know there won’t be a Bonfire Night this year) I say the leaves will still be there on the trees!
