Having never heard of the Swale Trail I was intrigued! This a 12 mile long trail for cyclists of all abilities setting off from Reeth and finishing in Keld, fairly easy going for most of the way with more inclines as you near Keld. Wonderful views as you would expect sometimes in sight of the River Swale.
Our ladies walking group thought it would be a lovely to do a circular walk taking in part of the Swale Trail so setting off from Grinton, we turned along a gravelled driveway just to the right of the church. There is a camellia tree growing by the cottage here and we were fortunate to see it in full bloom. Wonderful! This then brings you out onto a single track road, Swale Hall Lane.
After quite a few yards you will see a finger post for the Swale Trail off to the right. Follow along here, by the river eventually leaving left, south, towards Ivy House. Follow the footpath which will bring you out onto Swale Hall Lane again. We just turned left onto here and walked back down to Grinton, hardly a car and easy walking.
We adjourned to the Dales Bike Centre for tea and cake, all homemade and really quite delicious!
