Thornton Rust, where does that name come from? Apparently the village was mentioned in the Doomsday Book and you can find out more on Wikipedia.
A peaceful village with small greens in front of most of the cottages, a linear village looking down towards the river Ure on its way through Wensleydale. Some six miles from the upper Wensleydale market town of Hawes and a couple of miles west of Aysgarth, famous for its magnificent waterfalls. A small village too, but with an active Village Institute with always something going on, from quiz nights to games evenings, coffee mornings and the annual Country Show always held in August.
Mingle with the locals you’ll find yourselves very welcome. Walks galore, my favourite to go up onto Addlebrough, a lovely circular walk from the village. Don’t feel like taking the car? The Little White Bus passes through regularly to take you west or east, and always through interesting villages and breath taking scenery.
We have two cottages in Thornton Rust, The Bield to sleep 6 plus up to two well behaved dogs and West Cottage to sleep 5 plus 1 small dog. Call me, Nadine, or Joanne, my daughter, on 01969 663559 for friendly help and advice or book on line if you wish, we’d love to hear from you.
