Every year in October for many, many years the salmon have travelled along their demanding route upstream from the sea to Walden Beck, when they get to West Burton they are nearly at their journeys end but there is just one last big obstacle to conquer, the Cauldron Falls.
The water flow needs to be just right for them to scale this pretty waterfall, not too dry and not too much in flood. Where they actually spawn I don’t know, only that it’s past West Burton further upstream into Walden. Walden Head is where the beck eventually reaches its source.
Come and stay at The Old Wheelhouse at The Mill and experience the salmon leaping at close hand, you could nearly see them from the windows! Of course we have other cottages in West Burton all within walking distance of this interesting spectacle, just give us a call or book online and don’t forget your camera!
