Saturday morning at the market in Masham in the glorious Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale AONB

It seemed an awful long time since I was last in Masham this Saturday. Geoff and I had gone down to Masham to be with Joanne and the grandchildren in our little ‘bubble’ and Joanne and I decided to have a wander up into town to have a look at the market and to generally have a ‘mooch’. It was all very emotional for me, not really having been anywhere for over three months, but the market was just to place to be with people, at the correct distant of course, and do a bit of shopping, I needed some plants from Ashland’s Nurseries who had loads to choose from, and to just chill for a while. It was all very calm and relaxed, a few people wandering like us, and the weather was perfect for a venture out.

Masham is such a great little town, lots of interesting shops, many independent, super cafes and restaurants, really great pubs and of course a couple of breweries. Joanne and I weren’t going anywhere in particular but we couldn’t resist a peep into The Gallery on the square. A treasure trove of wonderful things, great artwork, pottery, cards, jewellery, unusual toys, the list is quite endless. Run by artist Josie Beszant since 1994 the gallery shows some of the very best artists and makers from the region and a select number from across the UK. As well as a programme of exhibitions throughout the year they have a large selection of simply beautiful handmade things.

Having browsed and been tempted in The Gallery we strolled along to just next door, things are really happening there! It was the old bank which is now being converted into what might turn out to be a very interesting shop, for me that is and I’m sure some of you too. The Curious Merchant! We could just peek a little through the windows for a taster and so I await its opening next Tuesday 14 July!

We do have some lovely cottages in Masham and the surrounding area, have a look on our website for ideas and availability or do call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 for friendly help and advice.
