Newby Hall near Ripon, a truly special day out for all the family

Share

To visit Newby Hall near Ripon is to visit one of the finest Adam’s houses in Britain.  Built in the 1690s by Sir Christopher Wren the house was later enlarged and adapted by John Carr and subsequently Robert Adam. Not only enjoy gazing upon the 18th century exterior and sumptuous interior decoration but a stroll round the grounds and gardens is a joy to behold.

Bring the whole family, when our children were small we never tired of the little train ride but now there is so much more to explore and experience. Enjoy visiting Gyles Brandreth’s Teddy Bear Collection, housed in a new ‘paw’pose built home within the gardens at Newby Hall. Newby’s exciting Adventure Garden has been thoughtfully and safely designed for children of all ages – from swings for toddlers through to climbing frames and bridges, an aerial slide and pedalo boats for the older children. Get wet in ‘Tarantella’ dancing water play area by William Pye! Newby Hall is now the permanent home to one of the finest collections of dollshouses and miniatures in the world.

Relax and meet with friends at The Restaurant at Newby which is run by The Yorkshire Party Company and offers a full range of delicious foods from sandwiches and soups, to mouth-watering salads and a tempting array of hot meals cooked to order.

Take a trip along the river! The Yoredale river boat runs each day (weather permitting) from the bottom of the herbaceous borders and takes you on a relaxing 25 minutes cruise on the tranquil River Ure.  It’s a great way to relax and enjoy a little peace and quiet, while seeing Newby’s beautiful gardens from a different angle.

A wonderful day out one not to be missed whilst you’re here in the glorious Yorkshire Dales. Do check out their opening times and ticket prices on their website before you set off. Please note that dogs are not allowed into the gardens and woodlands.

We have cottages just a short drive away, find out more here or call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, for friendly help and advice on 01969 663559.
