West Burton, Thoralby, Bishopdale, Aysgarth and home in a circular manner
If you're looking for a longer walk, then set off from West Burton, about nine and a half miles, or a shorter one, set off from Thoralby. Please do make sure you plan your route on the map before hand and wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Always take a drink and a snack, if not lunch, with you.
Cover Bridge, East Witton, Low Ellingstring, Jervaulx Abbey in a circular manner!
This was a walk made of a few walks already done but put together in a different way and was just lovely. About eleven miles but after the first pull up hill all easy going. As always please do check the route on your map before you set off and wear appropriate clothing and footwear not forgetting to take plenty to drink and snacks if not taking a picnic.

Walking from West Burton in Wensleydale in a circular manner, a short walk of about 4 miles
I suppose I have done this walk so many times I’ve never thought to relay it here but doing the route the other day felt it was just too good for anyone to miss. Easy going apart from a couple short ascents, lovely views so take your camera, along with your map of course if you’re not sure of the route.
Whernside, the highest of the Three Peaks, by the Ribblehead Viaduct
Our little walking group thought it was time to walk Whernside again, we’ve been trying for a few weeks now but happenings in life haven’t allowed us, we’d also read that a new path had been laid on the west side and were interested to try it out. Friday was our day and so off we went to Ribblehead.
Penhill, in glorious Wensleydale, twice!!
We’re off to scale the heights of Snowdon next week and so with a mind that we should be upping our training thought we should walk up Penhill, not just once but twice! If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, want to keep it local and experience the most fantastic views then read further.
Bluebells, Aysgarth Falls, Thoralby, Newbiggin, West Burton
It’s May and the time of year for bluebells and they are quite magnificent, must have been the perfect weather for them. We do have lots of places where you can wander through bluebell woods, Hackfall Wood and Nutwith Wood near Masham, Cauldron Falls at West Burton, Freeholders Wood near Aysgarth Falls but thought it would be nice to combine a walk with bluebells, spectacular views and not too far. So…………………..
Circular Walk from West Burton, past Aysgarth Falls and St Andrew’s Church
Easter Saturday and yet another glorious day, going to be even hotter than yesterday me thinks. Setting off for my usual morning walk I thought it would be nice to have a treat on the way round and stop for an ice cream at The Mill Race Tea Shop, they sell Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream, excellent choice!
Circular Walk from Richmond Racecourse
I didn’t even know there was a racecourse in Richmond, sadly it’s no longer used as a racecourse but it definitely was and was definitely used as such. Race meetings were held until 1891 when poor attendances resulted in its closure.
