A Brilliant Idea from Walking-Books.com for Walking in the Glorious Yorkshire Dales!

Share

I was talking to Mike from Walking-Books.com who is passionate about the books they produce and feels they have found the solution to walking a chosen route comfortably without having to take a whole book with you. Please read further to find out what he has to say and for information about this terrific idea.

‘I have been in the book trade all my life but always saw myself on the publishing side eventually so when the opportunity arose it was important to me that it was done correctly and quality of product was top of my list. Then there had to be something unique about the product and it had to be user-friendly so it didn’t become just another walking guide.

Painstaking research went into choosing the walks to make them interesting and accessible to as many types of walkers as possible. We then chose to present the 20 walks on individual A5 weather proof cards and include a map case which we feel has made them very user-friendly. No longer does the user have to take a cumbersome book and separate map with them…they simply choose the walk for the day, pop the card in the map case provided and off you go! The cards are enclosed in an attractive hard-cased clamshell box.

The Dales Pack – retails at £14.95 each. This unique guide includes 20 varied walks to cater for all abilities whether you are after a short stroll or longer hike. The route is written in great detail along with local pieces of history and interest along with how long the walk is and the time it will take. On the reverse of the card is an Ordnance Survey map section clearly showing the route. Also included in the pack is a useful user guide that explains the country code and instructions on how to read maps and a compass along with more local information. A map case is also included.

There is also a companion volume called The Dales Pack 2 that offers a further 20 varied walks throughout the Yorkshire Dales.

The other book I publish is again very different – Making Tracks in the Yorkshire Dales – retails for £11.95 each. The book is written by a primary school head teacher specifically for children to lead the walk which means both the children and the family have a much more enjoyable day. There are 10 booklets in each pack each with a fun packed short walk with lots of projects to complete before, during and after the walk where they learn about the wonderful nature around them. Feedback from our customers is that this sells not only to the end user but due to the product being of good quality a lot of not only parents but grand-parents buy them as gifts for their children and grand-children.’
