A poem for our times by Stephanie Fields ‘Let the Field Grow Back’
A friend sent this poem to me and I wondered if you might appreciate. Take the time to stand and stare there's always something to amaze. I'd like to say if only to look at the clouds but no small thing for me as they give so much pleasure!
The Joys of Autumn in the glorious Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale AONB
Every year my husband Geoff and I have a discussion about the leaves on the trees in autumn. He always maintains the leaves will be all be on the ground leaving the trees bare by Bonfire Night (sorry to remind you I know there won’t be a Bonfire Night this year) I say the leaves will still be there on the trees!
Circular walk from Leyburn to Cover Bridge on to Middleham and back all in beautiful Wensleydale
Having walked these following footpaths many times but never in the order or at the same time it turned out to be a really super walk. No steep climbs, river side footpaths, time to explore if you wish and about eight miles or more
Circular walk from Swinton Bivouac near Masham to Leighton and Roundhill Reservoirs and back via Ilton in the Nidderdale AONB
Nidderdale AONB was our destination and our route began just over four miles from Masham. On a good autumn morning we parked and set off on our walk from Swinton Bivouac, along to Leighton and Roundhill Reservoirs, up on to the moor and back down to Ilton and returning to the bivouac for lunch.
Bedale Heritage Trail, explore Bedale like never before!
Feeling in need of some inspiration I ventured into the Masham Community Office to pick up some leaflets and found a few things I haven’t written about in the blog, one being the Bedale Heritage Trail. I knew there were some lovely old and interesting buildings in Bedale but not a trail set out to follow with information to find out about each.

Circular walk from Buckden on to Yockenthwaite to Cray and back to Buckden in Wharfedale
On an absolutely perfect autumn day we set off from Buckden to walk to Yockenthwaite over to Cray and back down to Buckden. About seven miles, couple of short steep climbs but otherwise quite easy going with terrific views for most of the way.
Richmond in North Yorkshire, the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales
I picked up a leaflet about Richmond the other day, a town we’ve often visited but yet not really visited reading the leaflet. It’s known to be a town of breathtaking beauty, inspiring painters and poets, past & present. WOW!
Lovely walk from Redmire to Carperby and Castle Bolton in glorious Wensledale
If you’re a regular walker in the Yorkshire Dales, in Wensleydale in particular, you’ve probably walked parts of this route, but I hope I’ve found some new footpaths, new to me anyway, that perhaps have been less trodden or the way is different to previously walked, I do hope so.
