What a wonderful evening at Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn in the glorious Yorkshire Dales the other Saturday. Grimethorpe Colliery Band came to play and play they did to a full house and much applause.
Watch out for them coming next year as it’s their centenary year and will be visiting Leyburn once more. Grimethorpe Band are renowned the world over, having formed in 1917 during World War 1 and have won numerous band contests nationwide. Perhaps made a little more famous too for their part on the film ‘Brassed Off’.
And what about the Garden Rooms at Tennants Auctioneers? We are so lucky to have this as a venue in the Dales and don’t think that we sit in any old sale room either, the Garden Rooms is purpose built with restaurant and café, shop and display areas, often hosting art exhibitions. Do call if you’re passing, have a look on their website to see what’s coming up. On the sale room side there are auctions held just about every Saturday, with viewing on Fridays, again check their website. Edmund Tennant started out in Middleham over 100 years ago and his grandson Rodney has now expanded the Leyburn site into the largest family owned auction house in the UK, widely respected in the international market, with the Garden Rooms being the latest development finished in 2014.
What else in Leyburn? Visit the Little Chocolate Shop, say no more! Take a trip on the train with the Wensleydale Railway, again check their website for ‘specials’ and don’t forget to whistle! Walk the many footpaths spreading out in all directions from the town, stroll along The Shawl, to mention just one, and wonder at the magnificent views of Penhill sitting stately and serene in Wensleydale, ask any local and they will direct you or better still use your OS map. Browse the shops, go to market on a Friday, quench your hunger and thirst at one the restaurants and pubs, visit The Old School House, you might just catch an art exhibition there too.
You will need somewhere to stay of course so do browse our website to find your perfect holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales and to book online or call us on 01969 663559 to book and for friendly help and advice.
