A Circular Walk Past Easby Abbey

Share
A lovely walk to Easby Abbey near Richmond

The sun just keeps on shining, long may it last, we’ve had stunningly beautiful Spring days now for quite a while and on just such a day we decided to walk from The Station and Richmond Swimming Pool to Easby Abbey, or the Abbey of St Agatha, which is a ruined Premonstratensian abbey and founded in 1152, and here also is the hamlet of Easby. Find out more here. A walk of under three miles, mostly flat terrain and an interesting abbey to explore on the way.  Glimpses of the River Swale can delight along the way, wild flowers abound in the wood and the abbey, which is very impressive, soon comes into view. You get views of Richmond Castle from here too.

Park in the car park if you wish, up to four hours and no charge after 4pm and head off in a south easterly direction from The Station building along the disused railway track. A wide walkway with an archway of trees, follow on eventually to cross over the River Swale. A few yards after the bridge follow the path round to the left, following the footpath signs and soon you’re at the abbey. There is a little church attached to the abbey which we were lucky enough to visit, the door still being open after a funeral there. Explore the abbey and continue along the way being careful to follow the footpath signs. Through pastureland and once at the wood, you can venture down the steps to walk beside the River Swale or take the high path, continue on either way towards the houses and eventually come out on the main road and the magnificent Mercury Bridge. Turn left onto the bridge and make your way back to your vehicle if parked at The Station.

Do stop and have a ‘cuppa’ either at The Station or at the Richmond Swimming Pool café. Delicious fare at either but a good strong ‘brew’ at the Swimming Pool and delicious Ukrainian cake, you can tell I’m a fan!

Do come and enjoy this lovely walk and stay in one of our beautiful Country Hideaways holiday cottages. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 for friendly help and advice and to book over the telephone or do book online if you prefer.

We’re really looking forward to hearing from you soon!
