A Circular Walk From Askrigg

On the hunt for Cringley Lane in Askrigg

I was definitely on a mission for this walk! Our son Paul had shown me a photo of where he’d walked in the summer and I was totally intrigued as to where this might be. He knew it was near Askrigg but couldn’t really remember. Hence me appealing to a couple of friends who know the Askrigg walks far better than I. Paul sent a photo and I was determined to take one myself at the exact same spot he had taken his and sure enough all was revealed, success!

Our walk is a little over three miles with beautiful views over Askrigg, across to Addlebrough and Wensleydale and beyond. Park in Parkins Garth, a small public car park on the east side of the village and walk to Moor Road a few yards in the direction of the village centre. Do not pass The Crown but turn right up the hill. Follow the road to the last house on the right and turn onto the track following the footpath sign. Follow the signs to come out in Newbiggin. There is a little green in Newbiggin, keep to the left, through the houses, into open pasture and walk straight on through the gates keeping the wall on your right. Soon you are going through stiles again, follow on to Nappa Scar. Turn right, go down the hill to meet the road from Askrigg. Turn left and walk along the road for a few yards turning right down the track to Nappa Hall, continue on past the house to pick up the footpath signs again coming out on the single track road to Thwaite Holme. Keep going to come out onto the road. Almost immediately opposite go through the stile and follow the path to Cringley Lane. Here is the place!  Never had I walked along here before, always exciting to find a new path even if only for a few yards. Cringley Lane takes you onto Silver Street with various ways back onto the main street through Askrigg.

Do come and enjoy this very lovely walk, on a clear day it is totally breathtaking. We have School House in Askrigg, a lovely, cosy cottage to sleep four, pets welcome too.
