The Merlin Bird App

The robin, one of the garden birds the Merlin Bird App will identify

We were staying overnight with friends and it wasn’t long before Bob mentioned this new app he had found, thought I might be interested. Wow! Yes! Merlin Bird app. Just download the app, sit back and listen to the birds singing and the app will let you know just which bird it is. So very interesting. How many times do we hear bird song and really have no idea which type of bird it might be.

I tried one sunny lunch time, sat in the garden, and after sitting quietly for a few minutes there were sixteen different bird calls, who knew there would be so many and all identified with a picture and name of who is singing just at that moment making it so helpful. Blackbird, Spotted flycatcher, Greenfinch, Swift to name a few. Great too when you’re out walking to stop and listen. Walking round the Marfield Wetlands near Masham was so interesting to identify the different water birds and also what birds you might find there also.

If you are at all interested do download this app, it’s free too!

If you would like to come and listen to the birds in the glorious Yorkshire Dales? Then do book one of our beautiful Country Hideaways holiday cottages. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 to book over the telephone and for friendly help and advice and, of course, do book online if you prefer.
