Stunning Circular Walk From Bainbridge in Wensleydale

Lovely circular walk from Bainbridge

It was one of those days that makes you feel on top of the world. The sun was bright, the sky was stunningly blue, the air was perfectly still and we were ready, togged up with hats and gloves to hand as after all it was early January! We set off from Bainbridge for a four mile plus walk with breath taking views on this beautifully clear day. Bainbridge is well worth a visit anyway and has a large green, children’s play area, great café and a pub and of course lovely walks!

Do please wear appropriate clothing and good footwear, takes drinks and snacks, prepare your route beforehand and take the map, GPS and even a compass with you.

Park where you can around the green and set off along the road in the direction of Askrigg, leave the houses behind walking down the hill, pass Yorebridge House Hotel, over the River Ure and take the next stile on the left SD 93331 90769. Walk a few yards uphill, north west, and once on the disused railway line (if you look to the right you can see the old railway bridge) follow west along a beautiful green swathe of grass, very easy going! Through a couple of stiles still on the disused railway line and you will eventually come to a farm track and sign post indicating right. Follow this along the track coming out onto a very minor single track road, Kettlewell Lane. Walk along here to Long Shaw road and turn right at the top. Continue on for a few yards to Ingleby Lodge and immediately opposite the driveway, on the left, you will see a stile and post indicating Shaw Cote. Walk in a north westerly direction past Shaw Cote Scar to SD 91464 91042 and again to a farm track. Here turn right, north, continue on the track but look to the right to find a stone bench with inscription. A good place to pause too.

Continue on coming to a farm, walk through the farmyard keeping the farmhouse on your right, through the gate and turn right to again follow the track. Keep going west along this level with the wall on your right. The way will start to rise and you come to a wall, turn right at the wall to follow the farm track down the hill, south east, to Brockhill Cote. Follow the lane round to the right, through the gate on your left opposite the building and wend you way to the stile to take you in a westerly direction and Wyrams. Follow the stiles, perhaps pause a while to take in the vista, which brings you out onto Long Shaw road near Breconbar. Here turn left, walk a few yards to Yorescott on the right, turn into the driveway, look for the stile on your left, through here, up the little hill and then back down to the disused railway line and the way you came.

We have sweet Lion Cottage in Bainbridge, perfect for two, situated along a quiet little lane and of course all our cottages are well withing travelling distance to Bainbridge. Call me Nadine or my daughter Joanne on 01969 663559 to book over the telephone and for friendly help and advice or do book online if you prefer.

See you soon!
