The annual Richmond Books and Walking Festival is well underway starting last Friday, it finishes on 29 September. This will be the festival’s nineteen year and it’s as interesting now as ever with talks, some held in the Georgian Theatre, workshops such as sketching and bookbinding and walks to engage you for many hours, if you wish, over ten days. Each walk is graded as easy, moderate or hard to guide you with your choice. Talks by some well known authors, walks in Swaledale and Wensleydale and exploring the many nooks and crannies of Richmond by knowledgeable leaders. Some of the easy walks are part of the national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks programme. Peruse the varied programme and be spoilt for choice.
Richmond, to the east of the Wensleydale and Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales, is such an interesting town with Richmond Castle, the Georgian Theatre Britain’s oldest working theatre in its original form, the Richmondshire Museum and the Green Howard’s Museum. Wander down to The Station, well worth a look and there is food there. Stroll along the river Swale to the south east of the town to Easby Abbey.
We were lucky enough to get tickets to go and see Lucy Worsley on the Friday night, the hall was completely full, all tickets sold. It was the first event on the programme and wow it was a total treat to listen to this amazing woman who was talking about her latest book, Agatha Christie, so knowledgeable and so generous with her time, it was a total pleasure to sit back and listen.
If you’re here at the moment, follow the link to the programme or put it in your diary for next year and come along.
Come and stay in one of our beautiful Country Hideaways holiday cottages, we don’t have any cottages in Richmond but all are well within travelling distance to Richmond or to the start of the walks. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 to book over the telephone and for friendly help and advice or, of course, do book online if you prefer.
Looking forward to hearing from you really soon!
