Hawes in Upper Wensleydale

The Pantry in Hawes

There was promise of a nice day weatherwise and I had something to return to Cunningham’s in Hawes, we hadn’t been for quite a while to have a stroll round so no sooner thought of than we’re in the car and off! On arrival the town was bustling but we were able to street park. Don’t know if you’ve noticed but there haven’t been many walking routes on the blog just lately and that’s because at the moment I have an inflamed bursar and so can only walk a little way. Very frustrating but it is on the mend. Last month’s route was from memory having walked the paths many times.

Cunningham’s is my favourite outdoor shop and the staff there are so helpful but such a lot of other interesting shops and interesting things to do in Hawes too. Antiques, clothes, jewellery, rocks and gems, ice cream, knick-knacks, pottery. Pop into the market hall if open usually something interesting to find. There’s a chemist and the usual food stores, Elijah Allen’s is a must, and of course pubs, café’s, takeaways and restaurants. Probably lots of other things I’ve missed too! All seemed to be just waiting for us to appear and enjoy what there was on offer. Tuesday is market day if you like, there’s the Dales Countryside Museum with its events through the season, Wensleydale Creamery with cheese tasting and talks. Many wonderful walks radiate from the town, check out on our blog here for ideas. Oh and the garage usually has the cheapest petrol in the dales!

Article returned to Cunningham’s, no problem, but of course I had to have a look around the shop and be tempted, just had to buy a lovely summer weight, layering fleece in readiness for my return to the hills! Just a bit of a potter then lunch at The Pantry, delicious, photo shows the baking on offer. Slow progress back to the car, fill up with petrol and home! Perfect for me but you can stay longer and even get in a walk if you like.

We have beautiful Burnside View in Hawes, sleeping four people, and of course all our lovely Country Hideaways holiday cottages are well within travelling distance of Hawes. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 to book over the telephone and for friendly help and advice or do book online on our Country Hideaways website if you prefer.

See you quite soon!
