Dales Bike Centre and Cakery near Reeth

For quite a while now friends have been saying we should visit the Dales Bike Centre and Cakery near Reeth and so on a very pleasant day we set off to go over the moor from Wensleydale into Swaledale with the intention of having lunch there and just seeing what everyone was talking about.

Firstly, we were not disappointed in the least, with anything! The place was full when we arrived but the tables are so big we asked the two people already seated if we could join them which was fine and both couples just got with their own thing. Once settled it was time to peruse the menu, but for us it’s usually soup. If a place has excellent soup then everything else will be excellent too, that’s our philosophy and it seems to work. On the day we went there were four choices of soup, sometimes I gather there can be up to five. It soon arrived in a large bowl, steaming hot with warm crusty bread. Delicious! As there are twenty five different cakes, hence the name Cakery, we couldn’t resist so enjoyed a piece of cake too. We shared as the slice was so large! The centre is open every day from 9am until 5pm.

The staff were so friendly, there was a certain buzz about the place, all very relaxed. After lunch we had a wander outside, I was interested to go and see what changes had been made as it’s been years since my last visit. The café is completely different with the original room barely recognisable. Of course, as in the name, hire a bike for the day and enjoy riding along the Swale Trail, a multi-user route taking you through Swaledale. Just one route you could take. About twelve miles taking you through beautiful countryside with no worry about passing cars apart from a couple little stretches. Plenty of spares and a repair shop for your own bike of course.

Do come and stay with us and visit the Dales Bike Centre and Cakery, wonderful drive over from Wensleydale, whichever way you choose to go. Stay in one of our beautiful Country Hideaways holiday cottages. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 to book over the telephone and for friendly help and advice or, of course, do book online if you prefer.

Very much looking forward to hearing from you!
