Carols by Candlelight at Fountains Abbey in Ripon

Share

What a lovely Christmassy experience we had last Sunday in the run up to Christmas.  A short walk takes us from Fountains Abbey reception to the abbey itself, a most impressive building as you would expect from a World Heritage Site.

We made our way to the abbey cellarium and were offered candles and programmes and we, as a family, joined hundreds of others for this heart-warming service to sing carols accompanied by the St. John the Baptist Church Choir from Knaresborough and listen to readings.

It’s held on just two Sunday’s before Christmas and is very popular but there is room for everyone, bring your dog also if it’s not too cold for him. A short service so be sure you are there in good time but don’t just go for the carols, spend the day exploring the abbey and surrounds. You’ll find a good café at reception and one by the abbey or even take a picnic! Plenty of parking too. Also great gift shop where I defy anyone not to buy anything, fatal!

Lots and lots of events all year round at Fountains Abbey check their website for details.
