We seem to have been eating out either at lunch time or in the evening just recently in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. Nothing fancy I suppose just bar meals but all have been so good, all to be recommended and it has spurred us on to try more places too after a long absence for some!
We found all we visited warm and cosy with a lovely welcome. The Three Horseshoes at Wensley we just called on speck on our way home from a long dark journey and feeling a bit wan. The place and the food was just what we needed and we left feeling ready to face the world again. The food was hot, tasty and very welcome. I had vegetable broth and crispy chips that stayed so until I’d finished, Geoff had steak pie with suet pastry which he was more than happy with.
The Wheatsheaf at Carperby, we seem to have been a few times in the last few months and every time it has been consistently good. Last time I went with a couple friends and I enjoyed mushroom soup (you can tell I’m soup fan!) again it was hot, thick and creamy and quite delicious. The other two meals looked good too!
Redmire Village Pub we have yet to visit, haven’t been for quite a while, but it was recommended by a regular holidaymaker of ours who said their meal was excellent.
I suppose one of our locals is Street Head at Newbiggin in Bishopdale, you can guarantee a wonderful fire through the cooler months, Nigel and his staff are brilliant and the food again is tasty with a good choice.
If you just fancy a drink, The George in Thoralby has reopened, not doing food yet but will in the future. Well worth a visit, warm and welcoming, do go!
Still lots of other pubs to visit, would like to try Middle House in Askrigg which has good reports from friends. Of course Redmire Village Pub and also the Old Horn at Spennithorne which is also a community pub and the list goes on.
Do come and stay in our beautiful Country Hideaways holiday cottages and enjoy trying all these places out. Call me, Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, on 01969 663559 for friendly help and advice and to book over the telephone or, of course, do book online if prefer.
Very much looking forward to hearing from you, might even see you there at whichever!
