The Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn, Wensleydale

Have you been to The Garden Rooms yet for lunch? To be found in Leyburn at Tennants. Next time you’re here make a date. For something special try the restaurant, always best book, or after a walk in the hills perhaps a bite to eat in the café or afternoon tea even.

Geoff and I went there a couple of weeks ago, we can’t resist always a good experience, food delicious, nice atmosphere and there’s usually an exhibition going on upstairs and if you come on a Friday its viewing day in next doors auctions rooms or on a Saturday there is almost always a sale. Until April 15th the exhibition is Fred Lawson Remembered – A 50th Anniversary Exhibition.

Fred Lawson was born in Leeds but came to live and soon to love Wensleydale which you can see in his art. His work doesn’t only depict Wensleydale though but also his many travels throughout the UK and abroad. You may well remember from his illustrations in the Dalesman magazine and later his articles, as a little girl my parents would always have a copy delivered and there he was, instilled from a young age! Wonderful to see his work here displayed, quite a lot of it his early work, soft and gentle, and you can see his passion for this amazing part of the world.

Not only are there exhibitions but in the evening you may catch a concert, do look on The Gardens Rooms website for details, this evening a few of us are going to experience Manfred Mann, a true blast from the past! We’ve seen Leyburn Band, Grimethorpe Band, the Swaledale Festival usually hold some of their events here, Christmas Extravaganzas etc etc etc.

Always well worth a visit in lovely surroundings, quite a special place, really.

Most of our cottages are in Wensleydale and surrounds so book your holiday with us and visit The Garden Rooms in Leyburn during your stay, you can also join in with the fabulous Swaledale Festival, dates this year are from 26 May until 9 June. You know who to call, me, Nadine or my daughter, Joanne or book online. As always you will find availability just to left of this blog. See you soon!
