Great things happening in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounds in the lead up to Christmas 2018!

Great things happening in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounds in the lead up to Christmas 2018!

There’s always fun and excitement in December, as everywhere, with Christmas trees appearing, along with the usual Christmas decorations. Carols wafting on the breeze as you wander round the towns and just a general hum getting louder as the big day approaches! To get in to the spirit things there are always Christmas markets to be found. Harrogate Christmas Market, always very popular with over two hundred stalls of food and drink, crafts and Christmas gifts. Santa and his reindeers will be making an entrance and there will be a children’s funfair.

Special Treat at the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park near Grewelthorpe

Special Treat at the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park near Grewelthorpe

Joanne and I were invited to join the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust for their Supporters Lunch at the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park at The Hutts near Grewelthrope which we accepted with great pleasure. The last time I visited here was in 2011, I think, and a lot has changed since then. Our day started with more information about the work of the YDMT of which we wholeheartedly support and which some of you have very kindly donated towards over the years. Do please keep on donating to this very worthy charity.

Grewelthorpe in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty

Grewelthorpe in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty

Grewelthorpe, again where does the name originate from? To quote ‘the name Grewelthorpe derives from the words Gruel and Thorpe, Gruel being a family name and thorpe meaning "outlying farmstead", the village is also mentioned in the Domesday Book when it was known at Torp. Grewelthorpe can be found some three miles south of Masham and six miles from Ripon and is in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty. Beautifully placed to explore the surrounding countryside with plenty of walking to stretch those legs and take in clean, fresh air.
