Find your way around with OS Maps on foot, cycling, riding….

Walking in the glorious Yorkshire Dales

For a while now I’ve felt I should be talking about OS Maps for digital devices. I’m sure quite a few of you will have already experienced this invaluable tool for when you’re out walking, cycling, running etc. Paul, our son, treated me for my birthday last November and I’ve found it just magical!

The best way is to plot your route at home.  You can plot and edit as many times as you like and then when you’re satisfied with your route and distance this can be saved and will sync with your mobile phone. Once showing on your mobile phone I’ve found it useful to download the route onto my phone to use off line whilst out.

To say I’ve been a bit more adventurous with walking cannot be wrong, GPS is always there for you to use, and as you walk along you know you’re on the trail, no mistaking it. Over the years I’ve come to realise I’m not the worlds best map reader when out walking, okay at home but once out all sense of direction leaves me and so OS Maps has been a total liberator. I do tend to take a paper map also to get the bigger picture too! Need some inspiration? Have a look on this blog for loads of walks, some long hikes, some a short stroll but all totally enjoyable in the wonderful countryside of the glorious Yorkshire Dales.

Do have a look, treat yourself, there are various levels to purchase and it includes all sorts of features to play with. I shall certainly be asking for a renewal come my next birthday!

To try out your purchase why not come and stay in one of our cottages in the Yorkshire Dales, with over 1200 miles of footpaths and trails to explore you will not be short on ideas or as mentioned peruse our blog! Call me Nadine, or my daughter Joanne, for friendly help and advice on 01969 663559 or of course do book online if you wish. We’ll very much look forward to hearing from you!
