Cottage

Description

School House is a traditional, detached, stone-built cottage located on Mill Lane, a quiet cul-de-sac, which leaves the west side of the village, facing down towards the picturesque beauty spot of Mill Gill.

A pretty cottage, tastefully modernised with multi-fuel stove in the lounge for cosy evenings. A small entrance hallway leads to the lounge, kitchen and a stone flagged staircase. Through the kitchen is an under stair utility store which in turn leads to the rear of the cottage.

A stone-flagged patio garden gives ample space for outdoor eating and relaxation. Off the patio is a fuel store plus separate bicycle store and the side entrance to Mill Lane.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two singles. Each have built in wardrobes. The bathroom has a combined shower-bath suite with toilet and washbasin.

School House offers high quality accommodation in a tranquil setting with nearby pubs, restaurants, deli, convenience store and church in this popular and historic village.

Please note for short breaks there is a minimum charge of 5 nights.

School house was very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped. We had cake, cheese and milk left which was very much appreciated. The downside was that no heat came on with the storage heaters and we were cold especially in the mornings, although there was provisions to light the fire which we did on some of the evenings. It would have been helpful if a second handrail had been put in as stairs were very steep. We did enjoy staying there. Keith

We spent a week at School House and have nothing but praise for the accommodation. It was spotlessly clean, warm, nicely furnished and well equipped. The location, too, is excellent with Askrigg being a super village in the heart of the Dales. It is not at all surprising that many of the comments in the guest book are by repeat visitors.

This simple two up two down cottage was comfortable. It was very cold on arrival but we got the fire going and basically kept it going all weekend to maintain a cozy feel.( plenty of wood available in the cottage). The cottage was clean and we were welcomed with fruit cake and cheese. It was good value for the money .

The school house sits in the heart of Askrig, a very short walk to the village shop and pubs. The beds are very comfortable and the whole cottage warm and cosy. There’s everything you need for a trip to the Dales. I have stayed here before and will return again.

Very well appointed cottage. Well cared for and very homely. Booked again for summer. Everything clean and well equipped kitchen. Nothing lacking for us. Mel and Steve (caretakers) are lovely couple and leave fabulous homemade teabread on arrival. Very welcome with that first cuppa. Love the stone stairway and the secluded back garden but equally often sit out front and have a chat with people passing. I love every minute here and of course hope to be able to stay for many more years to come

Lovely cottage lovely area lots of walks from the door step. Feels like a home away from home. Nice that we can bring our dog he always likes it here infront of the burner. Cottage is clean and fresh you would never know dogs have been in here. We always try to come every year.

An ideal cottage for a break in the lovely village of Askrigg. We have stayed here before, some years ago, but since then it is much improved. One to recommend and we look forward to a return visit. The Askrigg Brewery beer served in the King's Arms was the one that got our vote!

Excellent cottage and location. School House had everything you needed, lovely and very clean. Outside patio very secure for our little dog. We especially enjoyed having the log burner/fire and it was most appreciated that both types of fuel were readly available. On the whole we had a fantastic and relaxing stay, also Askrigg itself as it was a great little village as enjoyed having three drinking establishments to choose from right on your doorstep.Overall would definitely recommend School House and hope to be back to visit again in the near future.

The School House is a wonderful cottage in an amazing location. A fantastic place from which to explore the dales with plenty of long walks from the door step if you don’t want to move your car. All the facilities needed for four people including a log burner and an outdoor courtyard to BBQ if the weather allows. Askrigg village is a central hub for Wensleydale and has a real sense of community b Country Hide Aways standards are exceptional and we always book with them if possible.

A cosy cottage in the centre of Askrigg. Parking for one car and dog friendly. Good WiFi so could use BBC iplayer as Bilsdale transmitter out of action. Beds very comfortable. Patio rather dingy. If you have two cars, parking could be difficult at busy times. Covid precautions excellent.

We have now used Country Hideaways on several occasions and have always found the accommodation to be lovely and clean, School House is no exception, very compact, but everything you need for a week away. The cottage is located up a quiet side street and has a small enclosed rear yard with a small table and chairs outside, ideal if you have dog. We ate at all three of the pubs in the village, all were good and numerous walks on the doorstep. Will definitely return again.
