We are regular visitors on holiday to the village, having stayed in 5 cottages over 20 plus years. We stayed in River Cottage last year and booked immediately to return this year, to coincide with the Sheep Fair. The cottage has everything we need, comfortable beds and good kitchen facilities, and is in a great location.
Perhaps the best complement I can give is that I did not realise that visitors here could bring a dog (we usually would not book to stay in a cottage if it does take dogs), and having now stayed here for 2 separate weeks I have not noticed at all any sign of dogs being here!

Lovely cottage in a superb Location.
I do feel that the accomadition needs a little more attention in some areas.
Saucepans need attention as the handles are loose which could be a hazard, either have a screwdriver or replace.
The freezer in desperate in need of defrosting .
More attention to cupboards as they were sticky and messy .
No recycle Bin
Otherwise Fab

Nice cottage good parking comfortable lounge beds and carpets good slept well
Downside cobwebs just about everywhere, kitchen cupboards grubby, crumbs under microwave (dirty inside) dusty under furniture
Couldn't get towel rail to heat up
Just needs more attention to detail!

We had a great stay in river cottage, it was the perfect size for a family stay, nicely decorated and felt very comfortable. In a great location in the lovely village of Masham, the black sheep brewery is 100 yards up the hill!

We have been coming to stay in Masham for over 10 years, but this is our first time staying in River Cottage.
The booking process was easy and contacting the owner for key collection info was also fine, we were pleased that we coukd arrive earlier than the normal check in time of 3pm.
The cottage itself is like a TARDIS! From the outside it looks small, but once inside you are greeted with a lovely, spacious downstairs area and 4 good sized bedrooms upstairs. Plenty of room for our family to each find their own little space to relax after a busy day exploring!
Overall the cottage looked clean, it was only on closer inspection that certain areas looked a little dusty/worn/grubby. I think a thorough deep clean would have the place shining again in no time.
The kitchen is equipped with the basics. I know not everyone likes to cook when on holiday, but we struggled to find some utensils that I would have thought essential in a self catering cottage (there was no measuring jug, whisk or weighing scales)
We really love Masham and will be back here soon to stay again, hopefully in River Cottage!

Beautiful cottage, big and has everything you need for a great stay. The host even provided coffee, tea, bread, wine (Don't drink though), toilet rolls etc.
During our break it rained non stop, but if you were to go in summer there's loads of lovely grassed areas for the kids to play.. however, apart from Lightwater valley, there's not that much to do close by for them. We drive to York and Leeds which were good.
We'd definitely stay again though, in summer.
Would be perfect for a group of adults as lots of pubs around (we don't drink so didn't bother with them).
100% recommend a stay here.

We had a lovely stay at River Cottage. The welcome pack on arrival was much appreciated after a long drive from London. Very comfortable, well equipped accommodation. All appliances easy to use. Convenient location for exploring rural North Yorkshire. Masham itself is a friendly and welcoming community - we were impressed by the sheep show weekend and the market! The brewery on the hill offers a great place to eat whether sampling local beers (or not!). Everyone agreed at the end of our stay that we would love to come back.

We have been coming to stay in Masham each year, usually on Spring or early Autumn, for around 20 years now. This is the 5th cottage we have stayed in, and I think it is probably the best one overall.

Nice house in a nice village/town. Well placed to explore the Dales and Moors.
It has some decent pubs and very good ice cream shop. Chip shop is supposed to be good, but we didnt use it. They use peanut oil to cook the chips etc, so for those with a nut allergy.

Our 2 families (6 in total) including children aged 3 and 7 have just stayed for our second, very enjoyable visit here.
The house is very spacious with the 4 bedrooms and has a lovely bright open layout downstairs suited to bigger families. Well equipped throughout.
There is a small enclosed back garden but that was not a problem as the park with a playground was literally just over the road. However it is a very busy road.
Position of property is excellent and is just a short walk to all the local amenities in Masham, you can literally see the black sheep brewery from the house!
We would happily return again
