Cottage Description

Welcome to Yorkshire Member Yorkshire Visitor Information Yorkshire Cycling Charter Families Welcome Cyclists Welcome Walkers Welcome

Mistle House is an interesting conversion of a former mistle or cow byre and its associated grain stores which stands in open countryside between the villages of Laverton and Galphay. Entry to the rear of the cottage is through a tiled hallway which serves as a utility and cloakroom plus adjoining fully tiled shower room and toilet. Down two small steps from the hallway is a spacious fitted kitchen, a further four steps take you down to a low level dining room which is only partially separated from the kitchen so that conversation can continue between chef and diner. Off the dining room is a bedroom with both a double and single bed. From the kitchen double doors lead to a spacious lounge including feature stonework and a wood-burning stove with stone hearth. An external door from the lounge leads down five stone steps to a patio area and lawn.

A stairway rises from the dining room to a spacious bedroom with king-size bed and skylights to watch the stars and half tiled bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. There are external stone steps from the garden to the bedroom which are a remnant from the days when grain was carried to the loft but are still accessible today. To the side and front of the house is a large lawn and gravelled area overlooking open rolling countryside.

The house has been skilfully designed and meticulously converted with a high quality of workmanship. The inclusion of laminate floors throughout, stained panel doors and other features such as exposed oak posts and masonry mix history and tradition within a modern context. A charming and pristine home set in a peaceful location within an unspoilt area of natural beauty, who could want for more?

“Mistle House is in a very quiet, peaceful location, with beautiful surroundings. An attractive stone building, very well equipped and comfortable with many places of interest to visit. We arrived in very warm weather but later in the week ti was much cooler but the underfloor heating made it comfortable. Also we used the woodburning stove which was easy to use. As we were here for the Harrogate Garden Show the cottage was ideal for our visit. Val, the property owner, was very welcoming and helpful. All said, it was a very enjoyable visit”
