Cottage

Description

A peaceful lane known as the Newkin runs from the south side of Bainbridge village green and branches into a private gated nook of four individual dales terraced cottages, a very intimate corner, with Lion Cottage central to the terrace. Now charmingly restored and brought into the modern era with style and comfort. The retention of wide board doors and bedroom floor, stone stairway and alcoves show the essence of past times.

Entry is to a cosy living area with lounge seating around a wood-burning stove set in a Victorian surround with hearth and a dining area to one side. Adjoining the lounge to the rear is a well fitted galley kitchen with ample space to prepare for those romantic meal occasions. An original stone stairway winds from the lounge to a double bedroom and a bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet.

At the other side of the nook from Lion Cottage are low outbuildings, one of which has been converted into a double bedroom and shower room to provide additional accommodation for two, aptly named the Cub House. Behind these by way of a narrow alley is an enclosed and secluded patio garden with flagged surface and flower borders.

Nearby on the Newkin is a designated parking area for Lion Cottage which is adjacent to a gated access to the garden although the cottage is easily reached directly from the Newkin.

Entry to the Cub House is to a small lobby with automatic washing machine and tea and coffee making facilities. The lobby leads to a comfortable double bedroom with en-suite shower room with wash-basin and toilet. French windows open onto the patio garden which can be accessed via three stone steps. The Cub House features an old-style drying rack, natural wood doors and original beams. The Cub House will always be unoccupied unless you have booked it.

An interesting upper dales cottage and annex providing a high standard of accommodation with a cosy atmosphere making it an ideal holiday home, whatever the weather.

The Cub House is only available to holidaymakers staying at Lion Cottage for an additional charge of £12 per night, minimum charge of £36. To book the Cub House please select '1' against Cub House on 'Your Selected Accommodation' page of the online booking path and add in the notes how many people will be staying, or call 01969 663559 to book over the phone. Many thanks.

Lion Cottage is excellently located, in the heart of the Dales. It is very cosy and comfortable, providing a perfect base for hiking and exploring the area. We'd came back for more anytime!

This is an ideal cottage for a couple. Right in the heart of the dales. Everything required for an enjoyable holiday is present here, in compact form. A lovely comfy bed, all that anyone could need in the kitchen, a wood burning stove, central heating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lion Cottage was in a perfect location for exploring the more northern Yorkshire Dales, by foot and road bikes. The cottage was ideal for two, though had provision for 4 with the Cub House if required. It was well-equipped and everything functioned well. If eating out, the local pub was average, however there are plenty of nearby places to eat - Askgrigg, Aysgarth, and Yorebridge House for a special occasion. I would recommend Lion cottage as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
