Bedale a lovely Georgian market town with cobbled setts and interesting architecture. There are independent shops, walks along the river, bowling green, small museum at Bedale Hall, a park, golf course, and St Gregory’s, a very beautiful church. Market day is Tuesday so make a date!
If going to spend quite a few in hours in the town park in the car parks, not on the cobbles as this is just two hours disc parking. Or arrive in style by train with the Wensleydale Railway, just a short walk into town from the station! Wander round the high street and little alleys, always something there to entice you. A great shoe shop on the High Street, dare I say it! We love going to Upstairs at Institution, an interesting café serving breakfast, lunch and more. Afternoon tea is a real treat but just for a ‘cuppa’ and cake you won’t be disappointed, all home made and the best scones ever. Walk down to the river, call in at The Beer Cafe, you can take your dog in here with you, again home made cakes and great food, just a little bit different. Continue up the hill to the station yard and if you have children with you call in at Big Sheep Little Cow, you’ll also find a fantastic Bedale Community Bakery here too, our son’s favourite shop!
To venture a little out of the town go to Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, you can spend a lovely afternoon just gazing and soaking in the beauty here.
