What a truly wonderful concert the other Saturday at St Andrew’s church in Aysgarth, part of the Wensleydale Concert Series which are held every month from March to the end of September. We, we went with our friends Barrie and Shirley from the amazing Cat Pottery in West Burton, arrived with ease at the Church having parked nearby in the car park, there is a small charge for evening parking, and strolled down through the church yard. Settled ourselves near the front and had time to gaze round our beautiful church before the concert began.
We were treated to Mozart, Suk and Schumann performed by Martyn Jackson on violin and Sam Armstrong on piano. Martyn Jackson has been described as a truly sensitive musician, a player of great intensity, a remarkably accomplished young violinist, whilst Sam Armstrong has been hailed as a major new talent and a pianist of splendid individuality, both having performed around the world. What an evening, I could have spent it in tears the music was so moving and of course we were just yards away from the front, magical!
The next concert won't be until Saturday 29 September 7.30pm. Then on 14 October it will be Carperby Village Hall from 3pm, apparently there is excellent tea and homemade cakes in the interval. Looking forward to it! There is a special concert on 4th November at Carperby Village Hall.
Next years programme starts on Saturday 13 April, all details can be found on their website.
