One of the best short walks in the Yorkshire Dales

One of the best short walks in the Yorkshire Dales

Langstrothdale in the glorious Yorkshire Dales

For a pleasant morning or afternoon walk take this 2 mile walk from Yockenthwaite Bridge; the full route map is available to download from the National Trust or in OS map OL30. The route will take you towards Beckermonds by the river side in the valley. Along the way you’ll take in a lime kiln, and a stone circle that’s thought to have been the base of a bronze age burial mound or ritual site. Langstrothdale is beautiful in the spring, when bird’s eye primrose grows in abundance and is famous for bare rocks pools in the River Wharfe running along the roadside, always great for a picnic.

Great things to do and see in the Yorkshire Dales

White Scar Caves at Ingleton in Yorkshire Dales is the longest show cave in the UK

White Scar Caves at Ingleton in Yorkshire Dales.

Ever wanted to explore stunning cave scenery? Then White Scar Caves offer an 80 minute walk through rock formations and subterranean caverns. At 4 miles long it’s one of the longest caves in the area that’s accessible to the public. Remember to take suitable footwear because you’ll be traversing through rough terrain that’s been naturally formed.
Oh! And remember to take a jumper. It can get a little cold down there.

What a surprise!

Stile on Watson Bank near Aysgarth in the Yorkshire Dales

Lots of you may recognise this stile near Aysgarth in the glorious #YorkshireDales and some may not but it was a complete surprise to both Geoff and I. How we can see yet not see! We both had to admit we'd walked/driven past it for goodness knows how many years and have never noticed it let alone walked through. If you're curious it's opposite the Drumlins on Watson Bank, the road from West Burton to Aysgarth, and leading to Thieves Gill and the blue bell wood. Perhaps it's well know to all but us!!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you have a really super time and all the very best for 2015! Nadine and Joanne

Bonfire and Firework display in West Burton in the Yorkshire Dales

Bonfire and Firework display in West Burton in the Yorkshire Dales

Great excitement in West Burton on Saturday evening for our annual bonfire and firework display. Loads of people gathered on the village green to watch on what turned out to be the prefect evening with no rain and clear skies. Lots of oohs and aahs to accompany the bangs and whistles going off, well done and thank you to all who helped to give us all such pleasure.............. There was also Boozy Bingo at the Fox and Hounds, our 'local', on the Friday night before to raise funds, great fun. Make a date for next year, don't miss it!

Stunningly sparkling.............!

Walk from Cauldron Falls in West Buton taking in Cote Bridge in Walden

Another glorious autumn morning, first frost last night just melting away in the low sun. One of my favourite walks through the fields around West Burton, start at the waterfall and follow the footpath to Rookwith Bridge but once there you can walk a little further to Cote Bridge and back to West Burton, just takes about three quarters of an hour, depending an how many stops to admire the views. Of course, there are many walks from West Burton which can take all day if you wish.

The salmon are back............!

Salmon leaping at Cauldron Falls in West Burton, Wensleydale

A great stirring of excitement this last week in Walden Beck at West Burton in the glorious Yorkshire Dales, the salmon were forging their way up stream to spawn! Word goes around and we're their to witness this event each year, draws quite a little crowd to the waterfall area. You can watch from The Old Wheelhouse at The Mill though. The property owners just happened to be here to witness the fishes' heroic leaps up the rapids and to take photos, I think they'd spent quite a while just enjoying this spectacle looking through the windows before venturing out.
