Wensley Station...Wensley station was built in 1874 by the North Eastern Railway Company when the Northallerton to Hawes line forged its way through Wensleydale. The line was essentially closed in the 1950’s but a link was maintained to Redmire to carry limestone from one of the local quarries to the foundries on Teesside. The line was re-opened for passengers in recent years between Lemming Bar and nearby Redmire in Wensleydale through the enthusiasm and efforts of the Wensleydale Railway Company. Through the summer there are three trains each day running from Leeming to Redmire. The station is situated close to Wensley Park sheltered beneath the scar line between the villages of Preston under Scar and Wensley in Wensleydale. |
