Pre-Arrival |
| Arrival and Car Parking Facilities • You can park in the shared driveway at the cottage, approximately 7 meters from the front door. • Please park on the right hand side of the driveway, next to the shed. • There is a rough and quite steep track up to the drive. • Parking is for one visitors' car only - there is free additional street parking in the village. • We usually ask guests to telephone prior to their arrival to arrange key collection and discuss any special requirements. |
| Entrance • Main entrance to May's cottage is around the front of the house, following the path across the garden. • The front door is 90cm x 185cm, with the hinge on the left. This opens onto a small lobby with a door mat inset into the floor and a peg rail for coats. • The internal door is 81cm x 202cm and opens into the sitting/dining room. • The carpet throughout is grey 80% wool twist. • On the table underneath the bookcase is the Information Folder which has all details about the cottage within it. |

| Dining Room & Lounge • In the Main Room there is a large two seater sofa an armchair and footstool, a flat screen TV with DVD, Video and Sky Freeview. A gate legged antique dining table 91cm x 91cm and three dining chairs. • A traditional Yorkshire range with open fire and mantelpiece. • An extensive collection of books, videos, games and DVDs. • Two stone steps of 8cm and 11cm high and a door 82 x 179cm leads to a small lobby and access to the kitchen. |
| Laundry • There is no washing machine, but we are happy to process laundry for you for a small charge. • There is a shared tumble dryer and washing line in the garden out-house. • There is a laundry and dry cleaners in Leyburn. • A small retractable washing line is available and kept in the bathroom cupboard. |
| Shop • There is an excellent village shop and post office in Thoralby selling basic household goods and local produce - closed on Thursdays. |
| Bedrooms • Bedrooms are on the first floor and are accessed via a two level staircase. • Six steps lead up from the kitchen lobby to a half landing and another six lead to the small first floor landing. • Bedroom 1 - Latch handled door 70cm x 176cm, hinged on the left. • There is a white painted wooden framed single bed, a small antique pine chest of drawers, a peg rail with coat hangers and a small chair. • There is a reading lamp on the chest of drawers, a mirror and blackout roller blind. • All bedding is 100% cotton with feather duvet and non feather pillows. • There is a feather eiderdown and a selection of blankets and hot water bottles. • Bedroom 2 - Latch handled door 66cm x 196cm, hinged on the right. • There is a double divan bed 4'10 x 4'6. Space to the right of the bed is 40cm. • There are two reading lamps by each side of the bed, small antique bedside tables, an antique chest of drawers, a mirror, a wicker chair with cushions and lined curtains. • All bedding is 100% with non-feather duvet and pillows. • There is a feather eiderdown and a selection of blankets and hot water bottles. • There is a single wardrobe in the lobby between Bedroom 2 and the House Bathroom. |

| Self-catering Kitchen • Kitchen opening from lobby is 74cm x 190cm. • The floor is original stone flags and has an uneven surface. • There is a white ceramic butler’s sink with brass taps and wooden drainer either side. • There is one freestanding 85cm high antique pine cupboard with a wooden surface of 103cm x 55cm. • There is a freestanding 90cm high antique pine dresser with shelving above and a wooden surface of 102cm x 52cm with drawers underneath. • There is a freestanding pine shelving unit 200m x 20cm x 20cm for glasses and storage. • There is a pine butchers trolley on wheels for additional workspace and storage of 85cm x 45cm x 61cm. • There is an electric stainless steel cooker and grill with four ring hob. • There is a full height fridge/freezer and a microwave. • Hand thrown ceramic crockery is displayed on the dresser and an extensive range of kitchen equipment is housed in the cupboards and on a pan rack. • The kitchen is lit by halogen lv downlighters and panelled with painted tongue and groove boarding. |
| Grounds and Gardens • May's Cottage has it's own private low walled garden, accessed via the front lawn and secured by a small gate. • The step down into this area is 10cm. • The garden is paved with local stone and is an uneven surface. • Garden furniture, parasol umbrella and BBQ are available for guests to use. • An adjacent field can be used for exercising visiting dogs - although it is occasionally full of sheep. |
| Additional Information • An information folder is kept at the cottage details places of interest and ideas for things to do in the area. • We provide a welcome gift on arrival - usually jam or cake made locally. • Pets are welcome - please let us know on booking. • May's Cottage is strictly non-smoking. • There is broadband connection but very limited mobile phone reception. Towels can be provided for a small charge. Hours of operation: Open all year. |
