Bear Cottage, Marsett...

On the edge of the village green looking out over Marsett Beck and towards the distant  high crags of Addleborough is Bear Cottage, a recent barn conversion, adjoining the main house. To the side of the cottage is a gravelled yard with flagged patio with ample room to park.

A stable door from the yard gives access to the cottage, which on the ground floor is completely open plan. A large space divided only by the sizeable oak ceiling beams and their support posts. There is a spacious and beautifully fitted kitchen area, an adjacent dining area and roomy sitting space gathered around a large fireplace with stone pillars, stone slabbed hearth containing a multi-fuel stove. Large patio doors off the dining area lead to a small patio and out onto the village green.

From the lounge an open, cast iron staircase spirals to a landing with cast iron balustrade. Off the landing are three bedrooms, one with a king size bed, one with a double bed and the other two singles. Also off the landing is a bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet. All the upstairs rooms are built into the roof space and have sloping ceilings with oak beams and roof lights.

This is a unique and lavish conversion using substantial timbers for beams, support posts, purlins and rafters all made from reclaimed oak left in a natural condition. Apart from the bedrooms, which are carpeted, all the other floors are polished oak boards. The beauty of this mellow oak, and the features it produces, are enhanced by warm decoration and vivid furnishings. This coupled with the innovative use of backlighting and spotlights adds charm and atmosphere to this meticulous and groundbreaking conversion.
