Craigendale Cottage, Masham

Park Street is one of the small roads leading from the market place with rows of finely built terraced cottages. Craigendale is one such, stone built end cottage adjacent to one of the narrow wynds that break the line of terraces and gives access to the rear of the cottages and their gardens. 

Entry at the front is to a well equipped, shaker style kitchen with ample room for family dining. Through the kitchen is a cosy lounge with exposed ceiling joists and an original dressed stone fireplace with flagged hearth and 'living flame' stove. A rear door from the lounge leads out to the patio garden. A stairway rises between the lounge and kitchen to a small stepped landing serving a double bedroom, twin bedroom and tiled bathroom with bath, sprinkler shower, washbasin and toilet. Both bedrooms have exposed beams and the double room still retains the original Victorian fireplace and surround.

Behind the cottage is a gravelled patio garden with informal flower pots and tubs to provide a private space to sit and relax. The adjacent wynd, and hence Park Street, can be reached from the garden.

The cottage has been lovingly restored with the retention of many original features and the addition of modern appliances and lighting systems. The use of strong colour contrasts in soft furnishings and fittings set against warm pastel backgrounds and dressed with stylish modern period furniture bring real warmth and life to this cosy cottage.
