Once a bustling market village of upper Wensleydale, Askrigg still reflects its history with stone flagged pavements leading to a cobbled market place centred by an ancient cross and overlooked by a 13th century church. 

The main street, lined by impressive terraced dwellings, is the beginning of many wynds and narrow side streets with yards and gardens that lead on to footpaths offering circuital routes with splendid views of Wensleydale backclothed by the steep fells of Addlebrough. 

Compare the white cascades of nearby Mill Gill and Whitfield Gill Force to the local meandering of the river Ure before it too rushes to fall spectacularly at Aysgarth.
